We met Steve Dubbeldam immediately after moving into the Apolis office on Traction Avenue, which is located in the Arts District of Los Angeles. After quickly referencing some mutual friends, our friendship with Steve was born, and our induction into the community that we now call home followed shortly after. Dubbeldam was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on January 8, 1983 and grew up as part of a family of seven. All of whom lived in a house that Steve's father built on a 40 acre plot outside of Edmonton. The upbringing under his father, a mechanical engineer/inventor, shaped who Dubbeldam is today - a jack of all trades with a true thirst for discovery and innovation. His parents passed on a sense of hard work, entrepreneurialism, comfort with risk, optimism, integrity, precision and quality, moral absolutes, and passion for people and the world that they live in. Dubbeldam approaches his work with curiosity and is always challenging himself to create something new. “There’s an anonymous quote that has been a long motivator of mine which says ‘no one wants to see what they just saw’” Steve recalls. This enthusiastic mindset has enabled Doubledam to creatively challenge himself in the design, brands, and projects that he undertakes - most currently Temple Bags. Dubbeldam is a rare and incredibly inspiring individual whose central dream is to leverage his creativity to produce the most good possible in the world, in ways that imbued with both quality and innovation. We have been lucky to go beyond simply crossing paths with Steve, and are honored to be able to call him a friend.
