On September 28th, we took full advantage of Apolis: Common Gallery's space by transforming our retail and work headquarters into a cozy candlelight dinner location for fifty close friends. The dinner was part of Kinfolk Magazine’s local dinner series that has been in six cities and seeks to “invite people to gather and take advantage of the rich community that already exists around them.” We were honored to host the Los Angeles Kinfolk dinner, which featured a horseshoe table for fifty, hanging dried herbs, and locally sourced food and beverages from Los Angeles-based vendors.
After a scrumptious filling of pumpkin tacos, house cured salmon, heirloom tomato tart, braised pork, and lemon rosemary cake (to only name a few favorites) we transitioned into an after dinner reception with 200+ Apolis supporters and Kinfolk enthusiasts. Much of the attention was turned to Apolis’ collaboration with Kinfolk on the Apolis + Kinfolk Garden Bag. This bag is the second product we have created with our female cooperative in Saidpur, Bangladesh that creates sustainable job opportunities in Bangladesh and furthers our mission of “Advocacy through Industry.” Not only did we sell all of the Garden Bags making up the window display at Apolis: Common Gallery, but Apolis Brand Director Shea Parton also hosted a Global Citizen Keynote with Kinfolk Founder Nathan Williams. During the keynote, Nathan spoke to the importance of making time for small face-to-face gatherings in the midst of a culture that has reduced social engagement to a “like” over social media. He humbly shared the vision of Kinfolk, which began as a way of life between a group of friends in Portland and has since spread via Kinfolk’s website and print magazine to Anthropology, West Elm, Williams-Sonoma and over 300 stockists worldwide with circulation doubling each quarter.
We are so pleased to share a few stunning photos from the dinner and reception, and we also would like to thank Kinfolk and the following vendors for making the evening a success: West Elm, The Paper Palate, Three Sticks Winery, Peddler’s Creamery, Wantful, Cookbook LA, Moon Juice, Yeah! Rentals, Type A Press, Handsome Coffee Roasters, Rachel Craven, Dovetail, Twig & Twine, Leo Patrone, Greenbar Collective, Casa de Perrin, Brakeman Brewery, Anja Mulder, Angela Duncan & FarmShop.
