In 2004, we began this journey with a simple and perhaps naive, idea: the idea that people could live better lives if they were given opportunity, a chance to practice their trade, gain employment and determine their own future. Although our progress is modest, we are slowly making an impact - based on the principle of being responsible with a little, leads to being trusted with more.
Today we are proud to announce a landmark moment for our model of Advocacy through Industry. Almost a year ago we began a conversation about business as a force for good with the world’s first luxury Whisky brand, Chivas Regal. Their London-based Global team shared with us their vision for an international campaign to champion a new breed of entrepreneurship that we believe is emerging all around the world. We all agreed that financial performance is inseparable from social impact and shared an interest in social entrepreneurship. After a few months of working out the details, my brother & I (Shea) are proud to be featured as two of the entrepreneurs in the new international Chivas Regal campaign. Chivas Regal wanted to do more than just talk about social entrepreneurship and so as part of the campaign, they have created The Venture, a global search for tomorrow’s aspiring social entrepreneurs and a $1,000,000 fund to help make their ambitions a reality. In addition Apolis being featuring in the campaign, we will also be involved in helping evaluate the entrants and offering advice based on our own experiences of setting up a business with social impact.
Starting this month, October 2014, the campaign – featuring Golden Globe nominated actor Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) – is going live in more than 20 countries – including the US.
The process of working with an iconic brand like Chivas to re-think the importance of business in creating social impact has been rewarding, as their team has an inspiring attention to detail and truly shares our philosophy that the best way to create lasting change is by investing in people. The following photostory is a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the process to shoot Apolis’ two minute profile film for the campaign. Chivas’ London-based production team followed Raan and I around for two days between downtown Los Angeles & Joshua Tree. We are so proud of the early stages of this campaign and we are excited to share more about this project as it unfolds.
