A year ago we developed the Apolis mobile app for smartphones & tablets with the hopes of creating an easy outlet for viewing the Apolis journal offline and stay up to date with our new product releases, stories about inspiring friends, our latest films and much more. After much development we are proud to now be able to protect not just only your smartphone, but your tablet as well - with today’s release of the Transit Issue iPad Case for the iPad1 and iPad2. Our local USA manufacturing partner cut & sewed each of the vegetable tanned four ounce leather to the 100% natural Merino Wool to create a protective and durable iPad case for people on the move.
The proprietor of the downtown Los Angeles workshop that we partnered with to create the Transit Issue iPad Case was born to a shoe cobbler in Guadalajara in 1958. At the age of ten he began working with leather as his father taught him all the techniques for making shoes. With his father’s tireless entrepreneurial work ethic of well over fifteen hours a day, it’s impressive to hear our manufacture’s childhood desire to follow in his dad’s footsteps and own his own business. In 1974 he moved to the United States and began his leather manufacturing career developing the domestic program for Louis Vuitton leather goods. He recalls that those days being very important to him understanding the level of excellence and attention to detail that is required to build a reputation in the leather trade.
Now, after 35 years of professionally working in the leather industry while owning his own shop since 2004 with his wife, he continues to put in 60-70 hours a week, taking care of production by day and hand patterning late into the evening. Our manufacturer has consistently employed eight workers consistently over the years with the dream of one day having a larger shop for 35-40 employees. One thing is for sure with this inspiring American manufacturing story, each of our Transit Issue iPad case are handcrafted with hours of hard work and tedious care.
