We are always looking towards unconventional models for inspiration, and after flipping through Danny Meyer’s book, Setting the Table, we were blown away by the dedication to service that exists within the restaurant industry. Similarly, we have always been impressed by American Rag Cie’s partnership with the Café Beau Soleil – a French eatery in Newport Beach.

Our friendship with Café Beau Soleil’s general manager, Herve Laveaud, has always been reason enough to stop by the café, and on July 7th, after installing our new window display at American Rag in Newport Beach, we were able to catch up with Herve and share a meal together.

Now a content resident of Laguna Beach, Hevre Laveaud grew up in Paris, France. His mother, a teacher with a PhD in economics, and his father, an engineer, always encouraged Hevre to stay positive and to persevere in his studies and passions. This upbringing propelled Hevre through business school in Paris, and after teaching juto (in which Hevre holds a black belt), managing a sports apparel company, and opening his own boutique in Paris, he moved to the United States and began work at Café Beau Soleil. A devoted father and an faithful advocate of Victor Hugo’s prose, Herve is living proof that, as he shared with me during our last visit, “America [truly is] the land of opportunity”. We are truly inspired by Hevre’s dedication to his family, his work, and his friends.
