We are privileged to release the Apolis + Wharf Market Bag, sold exclusively at Wharf’s shop in Providence, Rhode Island. This is our 13th Local + Global project, connecting regional retailers with our global advocacy and helping to create consistent employment for artisans in rural Bangladesh. In honor of today’s release, enjoy a meal or drink with any of Wharf’s local neighborhood restaurants or cafés and bring your Downcity receipt to receive $20 off of your purchase until April 30th. Also in the interest of impacting a local community every Providence Market Bag sold, Wharf will donate a portion of their proceeds to their Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
The local aspect of the Apolis + Wharf market bag will appeal to the Downcity neighborhood that houses Wharf’s store. According to Cornish Associates, a local development group, Downcity is “the literal and metaphorical heart of Providence.” Like many American urban centers, Downcity experienced post-war decline, but since 1991 has been revitalized. Much of Downcity’s successful comeback can be contributed to a microclimate of shopping, foodservice, and tourism centered on Westminster Street. Retailers and restaurants like Tazza, Small Point Café, Symposium Books, Euro Fine Wines, and Homestyle flank Wharf’s shop and create a neighborhood in Providence where gifts, vintage wines, organic coffee, literature and nightlife abound.
The Apolis + Wharf Market Bag is a representation of Providence’s history and the commitment Wharf owner Robert Babigian has to his local neighborhood. Pick up a Wharf market bag today, exclusively at Wharf’s Providence location or at the Wharf online shop.
