We’re Doing Something Different for Black Friday

Update: Passed our goal by 12pm PST (Nov. 23)! Thank you to everyone that supported Apolis’ Black Friday campaign this year

Business is a powerful tool which can be used in positive, constructive ways. That’s why we’re passionate about our Customizable Market Bag, which helps provide above Fair Trade wages, annual profit dividends, and retirement funds to female artisans in Bangladesh. Every market bag sold directly benefits the community of Saidpur, helping break the cycle of poverty.

Which brings us to Black Friday — a huge shopping day for businesses around the country. Just like last year, we're seeking to use Black Friday to help the people who work at the Bangladeshi co-op that makes our bags.

Leading up to Black Friday, we asked the 145 mothers who handcraft market bags what would make their lives easier. They told us that due to Bangladesh's frequent power outages, they lose about two hours of work on an average day, which adds up to about 5,000 less market bags they are able to handcraft each month. Since these artisans are paid per item, this is a big deal, since their current electric generator is old and doesn't match their capacity.

That's why so this Black Friday, 100% of sales on all Apolis items go towards getting a new generator until we cover the cost (831,462 Taka — which is $10,000 USD).

Plus, we've prepped some great bonus gifts for everyone who buys Apolis between now and Tuesday, Nov. 27th — including a one-hour webinar workshop with the Apolis co-founders just like we hosted in NYC & Seattle, a special preview of Apolis Japan’s Spring 2019 Women's & Men's Collection, plus an opportunity to win free, one-of-a-kind hand-painted and printed bags!

This doesn’t just help the actual female artisans being employed — it also benefits their families and the surrounding community. In fact, you can follow our Instagram from Black Friday through Tuesday (Nov. 27) to see the artisans of Saidpur personally showing their gratitude. We’re so grateful we get to be a part of their story with you.
